Futurama Redux – Urban Mobility After Cars & Oil
As a part of the design team for the [r+d] post-carbon Vienna exhibition of the 2015 VIENNA DESIGN WEEK curated by Smarter Than Car, we were in charge of the creation of one of the exhibition wall panels.
Official text:
For VIENNA DESIGN WEEK’s 2015 Future Urban Mobility Initiative, the directors of the think tank Smarter Than Car were asked to curate an exhibition on post-carbon urban mobility. In response, we formed an interdisciplinary team of researchers and designers to consider the systemic implications of such a transition and how the design challenge of future urban mobility might be approached.
The automotive age appears to be entering its twilight, but what will come after cars + oil? Futurama Redux: Urban Mobility After Cars and Oil examines how a transition to post-carbon urban mobility might foster urban resilience while creating new qualities of life.
Visit the exhibition: 25.09. – 04.09. 2015 @ Alte Ankerbrot Fabrik, Absberggasse 27, Objekt 42, 2nd floor, 1100 Wien
Futurama Redux: Urban Mobility After Cars and Oil was only possible because of the incredible support of our sponsors, the design team, and of course VIENNA DESIGN WEEK. Many people contributed countless unpaid hours to the project for no reason other than their commitment to leaving the world, or at least some small part of it, better than they found it.
We hope that you enter with an open mind and exit with an expanded conceptual vocabulary and a desire to directly engage the most pressing design challenges of the future.

Fluid Totality Studio Zaha Hadid 2000-2015. University of Applied Arts Vienna
with STUDIO HADID VIENNA
Text: source Institute of Architecture
Fluid Totality collects 15 years of academic design research conducted at the Zaha Hadid masterclass at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna. Under the leadership of Zaha Hadid and Patrik Schumacher the studio developed a distinct contribution to the emerging style of Parametricism. All elements of architecture become fluid, ready to engage with each other and with divers contexts leading to an overall intensifica- tion of relations. This style is architecture’s response to 21st Century network society.
The radicality and consistency with which this style is being pursued across all scales and programmes results in an impressive body of work. Academic design research can go deeper and farther than professional work in probing the consequences of a radical design hypothesis. Within academia architects can be more experimental. They can afford to be more principled and more self-critical, avoiding pragmatic com- promises. The creative work of the Zaha Hadid Vienna studio testifies to this.
Accompanied by essays: Zaha Hadid, Patrik Schumacher, Wolf Prix, Greg Lynn, Klaus Bollinger, Hani Rashid, Aaron Betsky, Joseph Giovannini, Brett Steele, Ali Rahim, Jesse Reiser, Hannes Traupmann, Mascha Veech and many others.

Selected Student Works
The renowned Institute of Architecture at the University of Applied Arts Vienna presents selected student works from 2009. The design studios of star architects Zaha Hadid, Greg Lynn and Wolf D. Prix offer students countless possibilities to exhaust architectural parameters across borders. The open studio structure, which enables students to work on the same topics from their first term up to their graduation, creates dynamics, which would not be possible at this scale in a conventional study structure.
